A Life Cut Short

Ryan W. Thornton, affectionately known as "Fly" among friends, was a 30-year-old father of four residing in Chicago. On April 23, 2017, his life was tragically ended in a drive-by shooting near Washington Park, close to the University of Chicago on the city's South Side. As he sat in his car, another vehicle approached, and an unknown assailant opened fire, fatally wounding him in the face and other areas. Despite his efforts to escape, Ryan succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

A Man of Dreams and Determination

Those who knew Ryan remember him as a man with an infectious sense of humor and an unwavering determination to provide a better life for his family. He often spoke of his aspirations to move his loved ones out of the neighborhood and into a safer environment. His friend, J. Reed, recounted, "Ryan dreamed of a house outside of the hood and feasts for his family."
