A Promising Life Cut Short

On March 18, 2013, the life of 15-year-old Victor Damian, known to many as "King Smokes," was tragically ended in Chicago's South Lawndale neighborhood. Witnesses reported that a gunman approached Damian from behind and shot him three times in the head at point-blank range. The assailant then walked away calmly, leaving the community in shock and mourning. 

A Community in Mourning

In the aftermath of the shooting, a memorial of nearly two dozen candles and handwritten notes appeared on the 2800 block of South Spaulding Avenue, where Damian was shot.
