A Promising Life Cut Short
On the evening of June 16, 2017, the Tampa community was shaken by the tragic loss of 18-year-old Antwan Tremaine Jenrette Jr. Known affectionately as "Pooh" to his family and friends, Antwan was on the cusp of adulthood, with dreams and aspirations that were abruptly ended by a senseless act of violence. As he rode his bicycle near the intersection of North 36th Street and East Shadowlawn Avenue, an unknown assailant approached, also on a bicycle, and fired multiple gunshots. Despite immediate efforts to save him, Antwan succumbed to his injuries at Tampa General Hospital.
A Father's Heartbreak
The pain of losing a child is unimaginable, and for Antwan's father, Antwan Jenrette Sr., the grief was overwhelming. The two had planned to spend that Friday night together at the movies, a simple father-son outing that was cruelly replaced by a devastating phone call. In the aftermath, Antwan Sr. took to social media, expressing his profound sorrow and disbelief. He described his son as a humble young man who kept to himself and had a bright future ahead.
