Miguel Haro, a 44-year-old construction worker from Cicero, Illinois, was known for his unwavering dedication to his family. Originally from Mexico, Miguel had resided in the Chicago area for over two decades, striving to provide a better life for his loved ones. His wife, Alejandra, and their two daughters, aged 10 and 4, were the center of his world. Friends and family described Miguel as a hardworking, honest man who lived a simple life, always putting his family's needs above his own.

The Fateful Evening

On the evening of December 21, 2014, Miguel was working extra hours at a construction site in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood. He had taken on additional work to afford Christmas presents for his daughters, particularly a tablet he had promised his eldest. As he and a coworker were leaving the job site near 72nd and Hermitage around 5:40 p.m., they were approached by two armed individuals. The assailants ordered them to kneel, robbing Miguel's coworker of his money and cellphone before striking him with a gun.
