A Community Gathering Turns Tragic

In the early hours of August 20, 2017, the peaceful ambiance of Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood was shattered by a sudden eruption of violence. At approximately 4:30 a.m., a group of individuals stood conversing on the sidewalk in the 7700 block of North Ashland Avenue. Among them was 32-year-old Remus A. Campbell, a local resident known for his engaging personality and dedication to his family. Without warning, a Ford SUV approached, and an unknown assailant opened fire, unleashing a hail of bullets upon the unsuspecting group.

Victims of the Assault

The drive-by shooting left three individuals wounded. Remus Campbell sustained a critical gunshot wound to the neck. Despite immediate medical attention and transportation to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, he was pronounced dead at 5:35 a.m. A 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left hip, and a 23-year-old woman was struck in the neck.
