Discovery of a Grisly Scene
On the morning of March 13, 2017, Chicago police responded to a call about an illegally parked Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the South Side Auburn Gresham neighborhood. Upon arrival at 7:35 a.m., officers discovered a horrifying scene: the lifeless bodies of three young men—Vogels T. Anderson Jr., Ryan Hamilton, and Devontae Watson. The vehicle was situated in front of a garage in an alley on the 8600 block of South Throop Street. Tragically, one victim was found in the front seat, another in the back seat, and the third in the trunk. Despite the severity of the crime, no reports of gunshots had been made in the area prior to the discovery.
Victims' Backgrounds and Identities
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victims as 20-year-old Vogels T. Anderson Jr., 20-year-old Ryan Hamilton, and 18-year-old Devontae Watson. Anderson and Watson were residents of the Ashburn neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest Side, while Hamilton hailed from the south suburban area of Blue Island. Autopsies revealed that Anderson suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, Hamilton was shot in the neck, and Watson sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
