On May 24, 1993, 10-year-old George Stanley "Junior" Burdynski Jr. left his home in Brentwood, Maryland, around 3:30 p.m. He intended to ride his red and white 1950s Schwinn bicycle to meet a family friend, Robert Violet, on 37th Street. Witnesses later reported seeing Junior near Violet's mother's residence at approximately 4:00 p.m., but he never arrived at Violet's home. During the investigation, authorities uncovered a child exploitation ring involving three men: James A. Kowalski Jr., Steven Leak (also known as Bruce Leak), and Joseph Lynch. These individuals were found guilty of sexually abusing several boys in the neighborhood, some of whom were friends of Junior. Although they were never charged in connection with Junior's disappearance, the FBI launched an investigation into Internet child exploitation as a result of this case, leading to the creation of the Innocent Images program in 1994 .
