A Life of Service and Family
Robert Stanley Gerard, affectionately known as "Bob," was a 93-year-old World War II veteran residing in Centralia, Washington. Standing six feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, he was a familiar figure in his community, often seen with his white hair, blue eyes, and a gold-colored cane. Bob had a heavily faded tattoo on his right forearm, a remnant from his younger days. He was known for his love of gardening and the outdoors, traits that defined his active lifestyle even in his advanced years.
The Impact of the Pandemic
In the months leading up to his disappearance, Bob resided in a senior living facility. However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought about strict lockdowns, preventing family visits and causing feelings of isolation. Feeling trapped, Bob chose to move in with his son's family in Centralia. His daughter-in-law, Kristi Gerard, noted that Bob was overwhelmed by the prolonged lockdown and was desperate to be outdoors again.
The Day He Disappeared
On July 6, 2020, Bob left his son's home on Seward Avenue by climbing over the backyard fence. He walked to a neighbor's house on North Pearl Street, where he requested a ride. The neighbor drove him to the intersection of West Reynolds Avenue and North Pearl Street, where Bob believed he recognized some people and chose to get out of the car. This was the last confirmed sighting of him.
Immediate Search Efforts
Upon realizing Bob was missing, the Centralia Police Department initiated an extensive search. They utilized bloodhounds, drones, and conducted grid searches, focusing on areas like the Skookumchuck River and Fort Borst Park. Despite these efforts, no trace of Bob was found. Detective William Phipps speculated that someone might have taken Bob in, believing they were helping an elderly man who claimed his family was out to get him. ...Read More
