The Fateful Voyage

The Wind Walker, a 52-foot Sitka-based seiner owned and operated by Captain Travis Kapp, had just completed a delivery of halibut and black cod in Juneau on December 2, 2024. After restocking with ice and bait, the crew departed for one final fishing run before the season's end. The crew consisted of Captain Kapp, Jacob Hannah, Alex Ireland, Emilio "EJ" Celaya-Talamantez, and Michael Brown. In the early hours of December 3, approximately 25 miles southwest of Juneau, the vessel capsized under severe weather conditions, including heavy snow, 60 mph gusts, and six-foot seas.
