A Fateful Evening Near Lake Merritt

On the evening of June 27, 2015, a routine drive near Oakland's picturesque Lake Merritt turned deadly for 23-year-old Justin Sandeford. At approximately 5:30 p.m., while traveling with four companions in the 400 block of International Boulevard near Fourth Avenue, their vehicle was ambushed by an unknown assailant who opened fire. The sudden eruption of gunfire shattered the evening calm, leaving the occupants in a state of shock and disarray.

Immediate Aftermath and Desperate Measures

In the chaotic moments following the shooting, one of the passengers managed to take control of the vehicle, urgently driving to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save Sandeford's life. Despite these efforts, Sandeford was pronounced dead at 5:48 p.m., a mere 18 minutes after the attack.
