However, beneath this festive veneer lies a troubling paradox: an uptick in certain types of criminal activity, including homicides. This article delves into the patterns and contributing factors of holiday-related homicides during these cherished times.
Thanksgiving: A Surge in Unintentional Shootings
While Thanksgiving is synonymous with gratitude and togetherness, data indicates a concerning rise in unintentional shootings during this period. Between 2018 and 2022, the week of Thanksgiving (November 19-25) ranked third among the top ten weeks with the highest average number of unintentional shooting deaths across all age groups. This surge is surpassed only by the weeks of Independence Day and New Year's Day.
