Introduction: A Mysterious Departure

On August 3, 2002, Timmy Gene Thompson, a 36-year-old resident of Phelan, California, embarked on what was intended to be a brief three-day camping trip. An experienced outdoorsman, Thompson planned to journey through the Salton Sea area, following the Colorado Aqueduct to his houseboat situated near Park Moabi, approximately ten miles southeast of Needles, California. However, he never reached his destination, and his unexplained disappearance has left a trail of unanswered questions. 

Background: The Man Behind the Mystery

Known affectionately as "Tim," Thompson was born on October 3, 1965. Standing at 5'9" and weighing between 180 to 190 pounds, he had brown hair and brown eyes. A distinctive tattoo of a California brown bear adorned the back of his left shoulder, with the bear's face notably uncolored. Described as an enthusiastic outdoorsman, Thompson had a deep-rooted passion for desert camping, a hobby he had cherished since childhood.
