A Promising Life Cut Short

Leichia M. Reilly was a vibrant 21-year-old from West Seneca, New York. Known for her love of writing and art, she was pursuing her education at Buffalo State College while working as a restaurant server. Described by her cousin as "the life of the party," Leichia had a close-knit family who cherished her presence. Her sudden disappearance on January 31, 1985, left a void that has persisted for decades. 

On the evening of January 30, 1985, Leichia went out with a friend to the Pierce Arrow Restaurant, a popular nightclub in West Seneca. Her friend left early, and Leichia remained at the club, where she was seen interacting with Daniel D. Rose, an off-duty New York State Trooper. Witnesses reported that around 3:00 a.m., Leichia left the club with Rose. Approximately an hour later, Rose returned alone and immediately went to the bathroom. 

Conflicting Accounts and Suspicion

When questioned by police, Rose claimed he had been with a woman named Cathy, not Leichia, during the time in question. However, his friends provided conflicting statements. One friend recalled that Rose left with Leichia at 3:00 a.m., while another stated that Rose returned to his apartment around 4:00 a.m., left shortly thereafter, and upon returning, mentioned that the woman he intended to visit was not home. 

The Investigation and Its Challenges

Rose was fired from the State Police two weeks after Leichia's disappearance for reasons reportedly unrelated to the case. Despite being considered a suspect, he has never been charged. The investigation faced significant hurdles, including the absence of a body and limited physical evidence. In 1986, authorities searched landfills based on tips but found no clues. ...Read More
