A Promising Life at Sea

Natalia "Naty" Molina Valenzuela, a 25-year-old Colombian national, embarked on a journey that many dream of—working aboard a cruise ship, exploring the world while earning a living. As a crew member on the Norwegian Pearl, operated by Norwegian Cruise Line, Natalia was part of a vast network of individuals ensuring passengers experienced the voyage of a lifetime. Her role not only provided her with unique professional opportunities but also allowed her to traverse the scenic routes of Alaska, a stark contrast to her homeland. 

The Fateful Morning

On September 8, 2016, during the early hours, the Norwegian Pearl was navigating the waters near Funter Bay, west of Juneau, Alaska. At approximately 1:40 a.m., surveillance footage captured Natalia going overboard. Her absence was noted when she failed to report for her scheduled duty at 5:00 a.m. Subsequent checks of the ship's CCTV confirmed the overboard incident.
