A Routine Hike Turns Into a Mystery
On the morning of March 23, 2020, 72-year-old Kwang Sun Kim informed his family that he was heading out for a hike on Mount Baldy, a popular destination in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California. Known for its challenging terrain and scenic beauty, Mount Baldy attracts numerous hikers each year. Kim, an experienced hiker, set out alone, as he had done many times before, expecting a routine excursion.
Discovery of Kim's Vehicle
When Kim failed to return home, his family grew concerned and reported him missing. Authorities later located his vehicle parked near Mount Baldy Village along Bear Road. Inside the car, they found some of his camping gear, suggesting he had not taken all his supplies with him on the hike. This detail raised questions about his intended route and preparedness for the journey.
Intensive Search Efforts
In response to Kim's disappearance, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department launched an extensive search and rescue operation.
