A Promising Young Outdoorsman

Riley Todd Salisbury, a 19-year-old from Bethany, Oregon, was known for his deep passion for wildlife and the outdoors. An avid duck hunter and aspiring taxidermist, Riley had a keen interest in the biology of life and conservation. He often ventured into the natural landscapes of Oregon, particularly the Columbia River area, to engage in his hobbies and connect with nature. His dedication to wildlife was evident in the detailed sketches of birds he created and the taxidermy projects he undertook. 

The Fateful Hunting Trip

On January 12, 2019, Riley embarked on a duck hunting trip with his father and younger brother on Karlson Island, located about 20 miles east of Astoria, Oregon, in the Columbia River. The plan was for each of them to hunt from separate small boats, a practice they had followed in previous outings. Around noon, Riley's father attempted to contact him via cellphone but received no response, which was unusual and concerning.
