  • 0 The Vanishing of Daisy Lynn: A Deep Dive into the Tragic Disappearance of Jacquelyn Landry

    0.00 of 0 votes

A Promising Life Cut ShortJacquelyn Hope "Daisy Lynn" Landry, an 18-year-old from Lafayette, Louisiana, was last seen on May 23, 2017. Standing at 5'1" and weighing approximately 105 pounds, she had light brown hair and blue eyes. Jacquelyn had two distinctive tattoos: a Chinese symbol above her left breast and a small triangle on the inside of her right wrist. On the day of her disappearance, she was wearing a green Army-colored jacket, jeans, brown sandals, a sunflower bow, and was carrying a black Adidas book bag.  The Day She DisappearedJacquelyn was last seen in the 100 block of Laguna Lane, near Kaliste Saloom and Ferrell Roads in Lafayette. She had left her home to attend a party at a friend's house but never arrived. Her phone was turned off shortly after her disappearance, which was uncharacteristic of her.  Initial Investigation and ArrestOn May 31, 2017, Malik Sheron Davis was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Jacquelyn's disappearance. Davis had a prior criminal record for drug charges and theft. In August 2019, the murder charge against Davis was dropped as part of a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of justice and was sentenced to ten years in prison.  Details of the IncidentAccording to court documents, on May 23, 2017, Davis picked up Jacquelyn from her home, and they traveled to his residence on Laguna Drive in Lafayette, where they took methamphetamine. Davis lived at the residence along with his roommates, Devan Dufour and Matthew Perez. At one point, Davis and Jacquelyn went outside to smoke a cigarette, during which Davis noticed that Jacquelyn "started to act out of the ordinary." Davis was in possession of heroin and offered it to Jacquelyn. Jacquelyn indicated that she had a needle to administer the heroin. Dufour agreed to inject Jacquelyn with the heroin to calm her down in Davis's room upstairs. Dufour left Jacquelyn upstairs for 45 minutes. When Dufour returned to check on Jacquelyn, she discovered that Jacquelyn was "cold to the touch and without a pulse."  Cover-Up and DisposalInstead of calling 911 or performing any life-saving procedures, Davis, Dufour, and Perez decided to cover up the incident. They disposed of the remaining heroin and the needle used to inject Jacquelyn by flushing them down the toilet. The trio then consumed more methamphetamine. Davis and Perez took down the shower curtain from the upstairs bathroom and wrapped Jacquelyn's body in it. Davis then traveled to a nearby store to steal a sleeping bag, which they used to further wrap Jacquelyn's body. On May 26, 2017, Davis moved Jacquelyn's body downstairs and outside. He then removed trash from the blue residential receptacle and deposited Jacquelyn's body into it. Davis confirmed to investigators that the trash was removed during the morning hours of May 26, 2017.  Search Efforts and Unresolved QuestionsAuthorities searched the landfill that received the garbage from Davis's residence using cadaver dogs, but Jacquelyn's body was never found. The investigation into the case is ongoing, and foul play is suspected due to the circumstances involved.  Legal Proceedings and SentencingIn addition to Davis's conviction, his roommates, Devan Dufour and Matthew Perez, were also charged with obstruction of justice in connection with Jacquelyn's presumed death. They were arrested by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office and could face up to forty years in prison if convicted.  Community Response and Ongoing EffortsThe disappearance of Jacquelyn "Daisy Lynn" Landry has had a profound impact on the Lafayette community. Search efforts were conducted by organizations such as Texas EquuSearch and Cajun Coast Search and Rescue. Despite these efforts, Jacquelyn's body has not been recovered. The community continues to seek justice and closure for Jacquelyn and her family.  Conclusion The tragic case of Jacquelyn "Daisy Lynn" Landry highlights the devastating consequences of substance abuse and the importance of timely intervention in overdose situations. While legal proceedings have led to convictions for those involved in the cover-up, the lack of closure due to the absence of Jacquelyn's body continues to haunt her family and the community. The case serves as a somber reminder of the need for compassion, responsibility, and justice in the face of tragedy.
