On the evening of August 13, 2016, 23-year-old Abner Garcia was driving near his home in Chicago's Garfield Ridge neighborhood. As he navigated the familiar streets, a van pulled alongside his vehicle. Occupants of the van flashed gang signs, leading to a verbal confrontation. The altercation escalated rapidly when someone from the van opened fire, fatally shooting Abner in the head. This senseless act of violence not only cut short a promising life but also sent shockwaves through a community already grappling with escalating crime rates.
