The Morning of December 17, 2003

On a cold Wednesday morning, December 17, 2003, at approximately 10:15 a.m., the tranquility of Southeast Washington, D.C., was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At the corner of 51st Street and Call Place SE, 22-year-old Jovani Jefferson was shot. Despite his efforts to escape, he collapsed at the intersection, succumbing to his injuries. The community was left in shock and mourning, grappling with the sudden loss of a young life.

An Innocent Bystander Caught in the Crossfire

Tragically, the violence did not end with Jefferson's death. A 6-year-old girl, walking with her family nearby, was struck by a stray bullet during the incident.
