On July 31, 2020, the serene shores of Paia, Maui, became the backdrop for a perplexing mystery that continues to haunt the local community. William "Scott" Stanga, a 52-year-old resident of Hana, embarked on a routine spearfishing excursion with his cousin and a friend near Kū‘au Bay Beach, beneath the renowned Mama’s Fish House. What began as a typical afternoon of ocean recreation soon spiraled into an unsettling enigma, leaving family, friends, and authorities grappling for answers.
Around 3 p.m. on that Friday, Stanga and his companions entered the waters off Kū‘au Bay Beach, a spot known for its clear waters and abundant marine life. Engaging in snorkeling and spearfishing, the trio enjoyed the ocean's offerings. However, as the afternoon progressed, Stanga's cousin and friend returned to shore, realizing they had lost sight of him. Despite initial searches along the shoreline and in the water, there was no sign of Stanga. Concerned for his safety, they reported him missing later that evening.
Upon receiving the report, the Maui Police Department, in collaboration with the Coast Guard and Maui County Fire Department, initiated an extensive search operation. Over the course of several days, search teams conducted 35 searches, covering approximately 621 square nautical miles of ocean and shoreline. Despite their exhaustive efforts, no trace of Stanga was found. On August 4, 2020, after days of relentless searching, the Coast Guard suspended active search operations, pending new information.
The disappearance of William "Scott" Stanga sent ripples through the tight-knit communities of Hana and Paia. Known for his adventurous spirit and love for the ocean, Stanga's absence left a void among those who knew him. Local residents and fellow ocean enthusiasts expressed their sorrow and extended support to his family during this challenging time. The incident also served as a somber reminder of the inherent risks associated with ocean activities, prompting discussions on safety measures and the unpredictability of the sea. on Vanished at Sea: The Mysterious Disappearance of Cameron Booth Off Chincoteague's Coast
He was a criminal, an abuser, likely who didn't want to face justice of his actions and took his own life because he could not face the consequences of what he did. The victims have told the family his crimes, with evidence. The family knows he was arrested and convicted of possession of CSAM. They know who and what he was. And they're all so equally sick they live in comfort that the victims don't want to retraumatize themselves over everything he put them through. Dont support this families sick parade of using a monster to get sympathy. He was never ashamed of who he was. He loudly boasted his crimes and justified them. The family shouldn't sit there and pretend, how far from reality are they to sit and post this man publicly on news outlets, websites, knowing who he is. Do they need attention that badly? They don't want the attention from the truth. The victims will never get justice. Do not pray for him o
