On the night of Monday, August 29, 2016, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s Northeast quadrant was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 11:47 PM, Tony Jermaine Gates was fatally shot in the 1000 block of Rhode Island Avenue, NE. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded swiftly to the scene, but despite their efforts, the assailant remained at large.
