On November 27, 2022, Jeffrey Anderson, a 51-year-old resident of Denton, Texas, embarked on what was intended to be a routine afternoon boating excursion in Galveston. An experienced boater, Anderson rented a 22-foot center console boat from the Galveston Yacht Basin with plans to visit the SS Selma, a well-known shipwreck in the area. He assured the rental company he would return before sunset. Jeffrey Anderson departed the marina at approximately 2:30 p.m., dressed in a white hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
