A Routine Outing Turns Ominous

On the evening of February 20, 2025, David Klein, a 56-year-old commercial fisherman from Ketchikan, Alaska, embarked on what was expected to be a routine outing aboard his 43-foot geoduck clam dive boat, the Canis Majoris. The vessel was last heard from at approximately 6:18 p.m. when the U.S. Coast Guard received an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon alarm originating from the area north of Thorne Bay on Prince of Wales Island .
