A Quiet Life in Miami’s Northside

Joseph Leon Johnson, born on September 1, 1929, in New Jersey, was a U.S. Army veteran who had also lived in Alabama. By 2008, he was residing in the Northside area of Miami, Florida, near the community of Westview. Due to health issues, Johnson was being cared for by a friend, William Merritt, who may also have been an Army veteran.

The Last Known Residence and the Fire

In 2008, Johnson and Merritt were living together in the 12100 block of NW 22nd Avenue in Miami. Their last known residence was destroyed by fire in 2009. Following the fire, there was no sign of either man, and they have not been heard from since.
