In December of 2018, the holiday season was approaching, and 24-year-old Nathan Daniel Rich told people he was leaving his home in Pasco, Washington, to walk to Nevada and visit his family for Christmas. He was last seen on December 15, 2018, just a day after being released from jail on an outstanding warrant. Rich, a white male with sandy blond hair and blue eyes, stood at approximately 6 feet 2 inches and weighed around 200 pounds. He had distinctive tattoos, including the number "702" on his left forearm and a mushroom on his right upper arm. When he was last seen, he was reportedly wearing a black leather jacket, jeans, black boots, and a Dallas Cowboys hat, and was carrying a dark-colored Nike duffel bag. He never made it to Nevada, and his family and friends have not heard from him since that day. As months turned into a year, the circumstances surrounding Nathan's disappearance grew more concerning. Initially, police considered the possibility that he simply did not want to be found. However, several developments pointed towards a more sinister conclusion. In March 2019, Rich missed a court appearance for a case his lawyers believed he was likely to win. A significant break in the case came when investigators discovered that his EBT card, which had been inactive since his disappearance, was reinstated in March 2019 and used until September of that year. This led to the arrest of his girlfriend, Mira Fitzhugh, and another man, Cory Silva, in January 2020 for welfare fraud. The two admitted to using Rich's information to reapply for and use his benefits. Surveillance footage from the transactions confirmed that Rich was never seen using the card after he went missing. The investigation took a dark turn in January 2020 when the Pasco Police Department reclassified Nathan Rich's case from a missing person to a homicide. Although his body has not been found, authorities believe he was murdered and his remains may be somewhere in the Tri-Cities area. Searches have been conducted in several locations, including near the Pasco-Kahlotus Highway and at Twin Rivers Park in Finley, but have not yielded any results. Fitzhugh and Silva have denied any involvement in his disappearance but remain persons of interest. The case of Nathan Rich is an active and open investigation. What began as a young man's journey to see his family for the holidays has evolved into a tragic mystery, leaving his loved ones without answers and police searching for the key to unlock what happened to him.
