In the quiet early morning hours of March 4, 2024, in Corpus Christi, Texas, 21-year-old Caleb Harris, a student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, vanished. The night had been unremarkable. Shortly before 1 a.m., a doorbell camera captured Harris, his roommates, and a friend playing with a puppy in their apartment complex's parking lot. Later, around 2:20 a.m., after a roommate went to bed, Harris mentioned he was ordering food for the next day. He sent a Snapchat video to his sister at 2:44 a.m., showing him with the puppy in the parking lot. Another Snapchat video was sent to a friend at 3:03 a.m., this time of a nearby bridge. His phone's last communication with a cell tower was at 3:12 a.m. An UberEats driver delivered his order at 3:20 a.m., leaving it at the door as requested. By 11 a.m., his roommates grew alarmed when they found the food untouched and discovered his truck, wallet, and keys were still in the apartment. The discovery of Harris's belongings and the unanswered food delivery sparked immediate concern, leading his family to report him missing. Law enforcement, including the Corpus Christi Police Department, the FBI, the United States Marshals Service, and the Texas Rangers, launched an extensive investigation. The search efforts were massive, covering hundreds of acres surrounding his apartment with the help of numerous law enforcement agencies and civilian volunteers. Investigators canvassed the area, knocking on doors and searching for any possible witnesses or surveillance footage that could shed light on his disappearance. Despite these exhaustive efforts, which included clearing his roommates, friends, and family as persons of interest, few leads emerged in the initial weeks and months of the investigation. The family, desperate for answers, offered a substantial reward for any information that could lead to his safe return. Tragically, the search came to a devastating end on June 24, 2024, when city workers discovered human remains in a wastewater lift station near his apartment. The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, making immediate identification impossible. After DNA analysis, it was confirmed in July that the remains belonged to Caleb Harris. An autopsy was conducted, but due to the condition of the remains, the cause of death was ruled "undetermined". The report indicated no signs of trauma, and a toxicology screening was negative.
