In the late summer of 2002, a young woman named Lateasha Lamone Brooks, just 20 years old, vanished from the town of Farmville, Virginia. On August 29, 2002, her mother dropped her off for an appointment in the downtown area. Lateasha was last seen walking away from Piedmont Court Services, located in the vicinity of the 1000 block of West 3rd Street. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a Black female with brown hair and brown eyes. She had a scar and a mole on her upper lip, a tattoo of the word "SPIT" on her left arm, and her ears and left nostril were pierced. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, gray sweatpants with "Bad Girl" written on the back, and white Nike tennis shoes. Lateasha's mother reported her missing on Saturday, August 31, 2002, after not seeing or hearing from her since the day of her appointment. Known by her nicknames Teasha, Shorty, and Lil-Bit, her sudden disappearance left her family with unanswered questions and growing concern. The Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office opened an investigation into her case, but details surrounding the circumstances of her disappearance have remained scarce. Despite the passage of time, her case remains open and she is still considered a missing person. Over the years, law enforcement has continued to seek information that might lead to resolving her case. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has released age-progressed photos to show what Lateasha might look like as the years have passed. The investigation into what happened to Lateasha Brooks after she walked away from her appointment that August day continues. Her family and the community are left to wonder about her fate in a case that has been without significant leads for many years, a quiet but persistent mystery in the heart of Virginia.
