On a summer day in June 1971, 64-year-old Walter Springer Lawton and his wife were visiting the scenic area of Nescopeck Creek in White Haven, Pennsylvania, with plans to purchase a cabin and enjoy their retirement. A former professor and the chairman of the mathematics department at Temple University, Walter had retired early due to Parkinson's Disease.
