On New Year's Eve of 2016, 29-year-old Genoveba Ortega Alvarez was last seen in Harrisonburg, Virginia, driving her gray 2011 Hyundai. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a Hispanic female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing between 5'1" and 5'5" tall and weighing around 170 pounds. She has tattoos on both of her arms, with a notable tattoo of a clown face on her left forearm. When she was last seen, she was reportedly wearing a white sweater, a black blouse, and black pants. Family members later reported to law enforcement that Genoveba was intoxicated when she left her home that evening. Her family has expressed that it was entirely out of character for her to be out of contact, as she was known for being close with her loved ones. The day after Genoveba was last seen, on January 1, 2017, her Hyundai was discovered abandoned in a ravine off of Bust Head Road near The Plains in Fauquier County, approximately an hour and a half from her home in Rockingham County. The vehicle appeared to have been in a single-car accident, but Genoveba was nowhere to be found. Investigators found her wallet and ATM receipts inside the vehicle. The last known activity from her cell phone was a call made around 8:30 a.m. on January 1st to the Rockingham County Health Department, which was closed at the time. The phone has not been used since. Authorities used tracking dogs to search the rural, wooded area where her car was found, but no clues to her whereabouts were discovered. Her family stated that she had no known ties to Fauquier County and no apparent reason to be in that area. In the course of their investigation, authorities identified a person of interest. This individual is described as a Hispanic male whose first name is believed to be Ceasar, and he may also use the alias "Pepe". In March of 2017, police released photos of this person of interest to the public. The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office also sought to identify two potential witnesses, men who were seen on motorcycles near the crash site on the day Genoveba's car was found. It is unclear if these individuals were ever located. Despite the ongoing investigation by both the Rockingham County and Fauquier County Sheriff's Offices, the circumstances surrounding Genoveba Alvarez's disappearance remain unclear, and her case is still unsolved.
