In 2001, Abidin Baran journeyed from his home country of Turkey to the United States, choosing to settle in Columbus, Ohio. For a time, he maintained contact with his family back in Turkey. However, in 2008, communication from Abidin ceased, marking the beginning of a long and painful period of uncertainty for his loved ones.
