In December of 2015, a sense of concern rippled through the Seattle Fire Department and a local family when 36-year-old Joshua Milton, a dedicated firefighter and paramedic student, failed to appear for his scheduled shift. A married father with a young son, his absence was uncharacteristic and immediately raised alarms among his colleagues at Harborview Medical Center. He was last seen near the medical center on the afternoon of December 10th. The last known activity from him was a purchase made at a Target store in Bothell, Washington, on December 11, 2015, which was captured on surveillance video. At the time of his disappearance, he was believed to be wearing a bluish-green long-sleeved Penguin brand shirt, blue jeans or blue uniform pants, a black non-hooded zip-up jacket, and black athletic shoes with white soles. The investigation into Joshua's whereabouts took a somber turn when his white 2000 Honda Accord was discovered abandoned in a parking lot at Deception Pass State Park on December 12th. This discovery, approximately 80 miles from Seattle, prompted an intensive search and rescue operation in the area, but yielded no signs of the missing firefighter. Authorities stated that while there was no initial evidence of foul play, they were not ruling it out. The Seattle Police Department actively investigated the case, urging the public to come forward with any information that might lead to his location. Joshua's family, including his wife and his father, a lieutenant with the Seattle Fire Department, were left in a state of distressing uncertainty. As days turned into weeks with no new leads, the hope of finding Joshua Milton alive began to fade. The location where his car was found, Deception Pass, is known as a site sometimes chosen by individuals intending to harm themselves. In the absence of any other evidence, the investigation has not been able to provide a definitive explanation for his disappearance. Though he is presumed to be deceased, no remains have ever been recovered, leaving his family and colleagues without closure. A memorial service was held in his honor in March of 2016, a testament to the life he lived and the community he served. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for those who knew him, a story of a dedicated public servant who vanished, leaving behind a legacy of service and a family grappling with an immeasurable loss.
