In the summer of 2007, 54-year-old Lorie Virginia Haley vanished from the Longview, Washington area, leaving behind a life and a family who continue to seek answers. Having traveled from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Lorie was known to stay in motels in the Longview-Kelso area. She was last seen during the first week of July, a period during which she was navigating life after a divorce. Lorie had been a long-time resident of the Kalama River Road area, a place familiar with her presence and that of her green 1999 Ford Windstar van. The exact date of her last contact is uncertain, with some sources citing early July and another noting a last contact date of September 12, 2007. At the time of her disappearance, Lorie was described as a white female, 5'2" tall, weighing between 102 and 125 pounds, with shoulder-length brown hair and blue or hazel eyes. The investigation into Lorie's disappearance took a significant turn when her green 1999 Ford Windstar van, with Washington license plate 816UDL, was recovered in Spokane, Washington, on July 9, 2007. The discovery of her vehicle so far from where she was last seen, and without any sign of Lorie, deepened the mystery surrounding her case. Prior to its recovery, her van may have been seen in the Kalama River Road area around the time she went missing. Authorities have expressed that the circumstances of her disappearance are unclear, but they suspect foul play may have been involved. Her sister, Morgan Patten-Dingell, has voiced the family's deep desire for answers, stating, "I'd like to know what happened... How was her end, that's something I think about." Over the years, law enforcement has made efforts to bring new focus to Lorie Haley's case. In 2011, detectives announced they were revisiting the investigation, citing sporadic leads in the preceding years that led them to believe she may have been the victim of a violent crime. A reward of up to $1,000 was offered for information that could lead to the closure of the investigation. Despite these efforts and the passage of time, Lorie's case remains unsolved, one of several long-standing mysteries in Cowlitz County. The lack of resolution has left her family with unanswered questions and the enduring pain of not knowing what happened to their loved one. The case is a poignant reminder of the lasting impact of a person's disappearance on their family and community, as they continue to hope for a breakthrough that will finally bring them peace.
