In the autumn of 1984, 61-year-old Frank M. Pozar and his wife Tessie were preparing for their annual winter retreat to Hawaii from their home in Spokane, Washington. Frank and Tessie, who owned and operated the Spokane Street Motel, were last seen on October 26, 1984. It was their custom to close the motel, place their camper in storage, and kennel their two dogs before heading to the warmer climate of Hawaii for the fall and winter months. They had methodically planned their trip, purchasing plane tickets for an October 30th departure and making reservations to drop off their dogs on October 29th. However, they never boarded their flight, and they never arrived at the kennel, a deviation from their predictable routine that signaled something was wrong. The circumstances surrounding their disappearance grew more perplexing as time passed. Because the Pozars did not have a telephone at their Hawaiian residence and didn't stay in regular contact while away, their absence was not immediately noticed. It wasn't until after the Christmas holiday passed without any word that their children realized they had never reached their destination. The investigation that followed uncovered a series of strange events. The couple's camper, which they had placed in storage, was later found abandoned in the long-term parking lot at the Spokane International Airport. It was discovered that an unidentified man had picked up the camper from the storage facility on October 29th. Further investigation revealed that items the Pozars would have surely taken with them to Hawaii were found in the possession of their son, Frank Pozar Jr., and their packed suitcases were discovered in the basement of the motel. The investigation into the disappearance of Frank and Tessie Pozar soon focused on their son, Frank Pozar Jr. Authorities discovered that after his parents went missing, he had used their credit cards, cashed their savings bonds, and forged his mother's signature on a check. While he was convicted of theft and forgery and served time in prison, he was never charged in connection with his parents' disappearance and has maintained his innocence. The case remains unsolved, a long-standing mystery in Spokane. The couple, described as hardworking and frugal, had built a considerable estate and were looking forward to retiring on the 24 acres of land they had purchased in Hawaii. Their disappearance, along with that of their two beloved dogs, left behind unanswered questions and a family fractured by suspicion. The overview of the case is a sad tale of a couple who vanished on the verge of their annual journey, leaving behind a trail of puzzling clues but no clear answers as to what became of them.
