In the small community of Kansas, Oklahoma, a young man named Dustin "Dusty" Ray Carver, aged 20, vanished into the night on March 3, 2014. He was last seen by his girlfriend at her home at approximately 10:30 p.m. According to his girlfriend, Dustin left her residence and got into a light-colored pickup truck with two unidentified men. He has not been seen or heard from since that evening. At the time of his disappearance, Dustin was wearing a black puffy Polo coat, a black hoodie, a plain white t-shirt, and blue jeans layered over gym shorts. He was also wearing tan high-top Adidas sneakers and a black New York Yankees hat with a red outline on the "NY" emblem. He had a black backpack with him that contained extra clothes, a knife, his wallet, and two non-working cell phones. Dustin was a white male with black hair and brown eyes, standing between 5'9" and 5'11" and weighing between 160 and 195 pounds. He had several distinguishing features, including piercings in both ears and two in his lower lip. His tattoos included a cross on his right forearm and the name "Ray" on his right shoulder blade. He also had a two-inch scar on the palm of his right hand, a scar on his left chest, and a birthmark on his left forearm. The initial investigation into Dustin's disappearance was handled by the Kansas Police Department, but with few leads, the case grew cold. On May 15, 2014, the Delaware County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) as his disappearance was considered suspicious. For years, the case remained unsolved, leaving his family and community without answers. However, a significant breakthrough occurred in the summer of 2025. In July, authorities received a new lead from a former cellmate of a man named James Merritt Larson Jr. in Missouri. The inmate alleged that James had confessed to killing a man in Oklahoma, stating he had tortured him, slit his throat, and placed him in a burn pile. This information led investigators back to a property in Kansas, Oklahoma, where a search warrant had previously been executed. During that initial search, a burn pile containing human remains, including teeth and bone fragments consistent with a young adult male, was discovered. With the new testimony, the investigation gained momentum. In September 2025, James Merritt Larson Jr., 42, and Penny Larson, 40, were charged with the murder of Dustin Carver. A witness claimed to have been at the Larson's home with Dustin when an altercation began after James accused Dustin of a serious crime against Penny. The witness alleged that Penny had told James she wanted Dustin "gone" and "dealt with." The witness left the residence and returned hours later to find Penny cleaning up blood while James was on the front porch. James then allegedly led the witness to a wooded area where Dustin's body was on a burn pile with a knife in his chest, and his personal belongings were being burned in a barrel. Following the charges against the Larsons, a third individual, 31-year-old Bradley Wayne Majors, was also charged with murder in connection with the case in October 2025. After more than a decade of uncertainty, the case of Dustin Carver's disappearance appears to have transitioned into a homicide investigation, bringing with it the painful truth of what may have happened to the young man who vanished on a March night.
