In the small community of Marblemount, Washington, 32-year-old Edgar "Jimmy" James Robinette was last seen on January 4, 2014. He had been at a neighbor's home and was reportedly returning to his own residence when he disappeared. Concerns grew among his friends and family when they were unable to contact him the following day, prompting them to initiate a search for him. Their search near his home on Cascade River Road led to the unsettling discovery of some of his personal belongings. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance immediately suggested that something was wrong. Investigations by the Skagit County Sheriff's Office soon focused on a neighbor, Steven Frederick Gest, with whom Robinette had been drinking on the night of January 3, 2014. Reports indicated that an argument had occurred between the two men. Robinette had allegedly refused to let Gest drive him home due to Gest's intoxication, choosing to walk instead. It was reported that Gest then followed him in his vehicle and the two engaged in a physical altercation. The investigation uncovered troubling evidence, including blood found in Gest's home and car. On January 14, 2014, Gest was arrested in connection with Robinette's disappearance and was held on investigation of assault and manslaughter. However, formal charges were never filed, and Gest was later released from custody. For years, the case remained a painful mystery for Robinette's loved ones. The community was left with unanswered questions and the lingering hope that he might one day be found. In a sad turn of events, human remains were discovered in April 2018 near Cascade River Park. The Skagit County Coroner's Office later confirmed the remains were those of Edgar James Robinette. By this time, the primary person of interest in his case, Steven Gest, had passed away in 2015. With the discovery of Robinette's body, the case was resubmitted to the prosecutor's office to determine if there would have been enough evidence to formally charge Gest. Ultimately, the discovery of his remains brought a tragic end to the long search for the missing Marblemount man, confirming that he was deceased.
