In the autumn of 2013, 73-year-old Willard Arent Bennett, a resident of Olympia, Washington, prepared for his annual migration south. Known to his loved ones as a "snowbird," he would escape the Pacific Northwest winters in his 1994 white Dodge Ram camper van, typically traveling to Arizona. Before embarking on his journey in November, he visited his daughter, promising to maintain their weekly phone calls. At the time of his departure, Willard was described as a white male, 5'10" and weighing between 170 and 185 pounds, with graying hair, blue eyes, and a scraggly beard. He also wore corrective lenses. His last confirmed sighting was not in his home state, but in East San Diego County, California, on November 12, 2013, where he made a gas purchase. As weeks turned into a month with no word from Willard, his daughter's concern grew. Her calls to his phone went unanswered, a stark departure from their established routine. A check of his bank records revealed a chilling silence; there had been no transactions since the gas purchase in November, a fact that was deeply out of character for him. This alarming discovery prompted his family to officially report him as a missing person. At the time of his disappearance, it was noted that Willard was in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease and dementia, adding a layer of vulnerability to his situation. His intended travel route was from Washington through California and onward to Arizona, a familiar path that he had taken in previous years. Months after he was last seen, Willard's van was found, but there was no sign of him. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear. The discovery of his abandoned vehicle only deepened the mystery of his whereabouts. The investigation into his case is being handled by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Despite the passage of time, Willard Bennett's case remains open, a painful and unresolved chapter for his family who still seek answers. His disappearance serves as a somber reminder of the many individuals who vanish, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions and a void in the lives of those who love them.
