In the small town of Clover, Virginia, the Thanksgiving holiday of 2013 was marked by the unsettling disappearance of 61-year-old James Oliver Brown, Jr. A Black male, standing six feet tall and weighing around 160 pounds, he was last seen on November 28th, walking near Neal's Corner Road. His absence became a source of deep concern for his family when he failed to arrive at a relative's home to pick up his retirement check, an act that was entirely out of character for him. Prior to his disappearance, he had spent Thanksgiving with his family, and everything seemed to be fine. The day he went missing, he was wearing an orange or rust-colored zip-up coat, blue jeans with distinctive gold stitching on the back pockets, tan lace-up work boots, and a black or dark gray stocking cap. He also wore a silver chain necklace and was known to use reading glasses or sunglasses. James, who was also known by the nickname "Jimmy," had several distinguishing physical features that his family hoped would aid in his identification. He had a large black mole on his right cheekbone, just below his right eye, and a birthmark on his right side near his rib cage. At the time he went missing, he had a black mustache. An old injury had left him with pins implanted in his left ankle. Despite these details and the efforts of his loved ones and law enforcement, the days turned into weeks, and then years, with no sign of James or any credible information about his whereabouts. The disappearance of James Oliver Brown, Jr. is a case that has left a family with unanswered questions and a community with a sense of unease. His case is made all the more tragic by the fact that his sister, Hattie Brown, had also gone missing from the same county just four years earlier, in 2009. While authorities have not officially connected the two cases, the circumstances have understandably fueled speculation and deepened the family's distress. As of today, the case of James Oliver Brown, Jr. remains an active and unresolved missing person investigation. The passage of time has not diminished the hope of his family for answers, and the mystery of what happened to him on that Thanksgiving Day continues to cast a shadow over the small community of Clover.
