On the evening of Sunday, May 26, 2013, 32-year-old Daryn Ray Collie, known to his friends as Darraby, was last seen in Guthrie, Oklahoma. After dropping his brother off at the local JobCorps around 9:30 p.m., he mentioned he was heading home to Del City to rest before work the next day. Daryn, a white male with brown, shoulder-length wavy hair and brown eyes, was driving his distinctive sunburst orange 2007 Dodge Nitro. He was approximately 6 feet to 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighed around 250 pounds, and wore glasses. He was dressed in a t-shirt and jeans at the time of his disappearance. His loved ones grew concerned when he never arrived home and failed to show up for work. A significant and perplexing break in the case came on June 6, 2013, when Daryn's Dodge Nitro was discovered abandoned and out of gas in a remote area near Mount Hood in Hood River County, Oregon, approximately 1,800 miles from where he was last seen. The vehicle was found backed up to an embankment near the Zigzag Trailhead, about fifteen to twenty feet off Highway 35. Inside the SUV were many of Daryn's personal belongings, including his laptop, clothing, passport, and the car keys. Curiously, the front license plate had been removed from the vehicle and placed behind one of the seats. An extensive search of the surrounding area was conducted by the Hood River County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Forest Service, utilizing both ground and air support, but yielded no clues as to Daryn's whereabouts. The circumstances surrounding Daryn Collie's disappearance remain a mystery, leaving his family and friends with unanswered questions. He had some unique physical characteristics, including fingernails filed to points and a titanium claw point set into the acrylic of his left thumbnail. The discovery of his vehicle so far from home, with personal effects left behind, has led to various theories, but no definitive explanation for his vanishing has emerged. The Guthrie Police Department continues to investigate his case, and he is listed as an endangered missing person. The abrupt end to his journey in Oklahoma and the strange abandonment of his vehicle in the vast wilderness of Oregon present a puzzling and concerning overview of a case that continues to seek resolution.
