On a summer day, July 18, 1992, 31-year-old Peggy Sue Lammon, a control operator for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department, embarked on what was meant to be a weekend getaway to Beaver Island in northern Lake Michigan. She was a passenger in a 1978 single-engine Cessna, piloted by her husband, Tom Lammon. Accompanying them were their friends, Ray and Cathy Sears, another couple from the Kalamazoo area.
