On a summer day, July 18, 1992, 37-year-old Raymond Dewayne Sears, an electrician from the Kalamazoo area, boarded a single-engine plane with his wife and another couple for what was supposed to be a pleasant weekend getaway to Beaver Island in Lake Michigan. The white and brown 1978 Cessna was piloted by his friend, Tom Lammon.
