In the spring of 2012, a 22-year-old woman named Heather Dialian Hodges vanished from her home in Rocky Mount, Virginia. She was last seen on the evening of April 9, 2012. Known to her loved ones as "Tink" because of her fondness for the character Tinkerbell, Heather was described as a bubbly individual with a strong will. She was a mother to a young daughter and had previously studied to become a pharmacy technician before switching her focus to criminal justice. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance began to unfold when her live-in boyfriend, Paul R. "Scooter" Jordan II, reported her missing on April 11, two days after he said he last saw her. According to Jordan, he had left their residence on Shady Lane for about ten minutes to go to a nearby Dairy Queen, and when he returned, Heather was gone. She had left behind all of her personal belongings, including her car, purse, and cell phone, which her family found highly uncharacteristic. The investigation into Heather's disappearance soon revealed a troubled and abusive relationship between her and Jordan. Just days before she went missing, Heather's mother had filed a misdemeanor assault charge against Jordan, alleging that he had physically attacked her. While Heather had a history of leaving home for short periods, she had always stayed in touch with her family, especially concerning her daughter. This time was different. Two months into the investigation, authorities found evidence of a violent event having occurred inside the home she shared with Jordan. Specifically, blood that was a DNA match to Heather was discovered on a doorknob in their bedroom. This discovery intensified the suspicion surrounding Jordan, who had been considered a person of interest from early in the investigation. He reportedly gave varying accounts of the night she disappeared. For years, Heather's case remained active, though no arrests were made. Her family and friends held annual candlelight vigils, clinging to hope for answers. In May 2023, after being missing for over eleven years, a judge in Franklin County Circuit Court officially declared Heather Hodges dead, though her body has never been found. A significant development in the case came in April 2022, when Paul Jordan was indicted on charges of second-degree murder and concealing a body in connection with Heather's disappearance. In June 2023, he was convicted of these charges and subsequently sentenced to 45 years in prison. Despite the conviction, the full story of what happened to Heather Hodges remains incomplete. The case is a somber reminder of a life cut short, leaving a family to grapple with the pain of their loss and the absence of a final resting place for their loved one. The investigation is now considered a closed arrest, but authorities remain open to any information that could lead to the recovery of her remains.
