In the autumn of 2011, concern began to grow for 55-year-old Robert Sidney Long, a resident of Richmond, Virginia. His parents last saw him in the late afternoon of September 18, 2011, and after that, all communication ceased. By September 24th, with no word from their son, his family officially reported him as a missing person to the Richmond City Police Department. At the time of his disappearance, Robert was described as a white male, standing between 5'10" and 5'11" tall, and weighing between 150 and 165 pounds. He had brown hair and blue eyes. Also missing was his green 1999 Honda Civic Del Sol, which authorities and his family believed he may have been driving. The situation was particularly worrying because Robert had left behind necessary medication, raising concerns for his well-being. The circumstances surrounding Robert's disappearance were unsettlingly vague. He had a history of addiction for which he had completed a rehabilitation program. An additional challenge in his life was that he was illiterate. His family speculated that he might be homeless and possibly panhandling to support himself. This possibility, combined with the fact that both he and his car had vanished without a trace, created a difficult and painful puzzle for investigators and his loved ones. The lack of available details in his case made the search for answers even more challenging from the outset. Years have passed since Robert Long was last seen, and his case has grown cold. Despite the passage of time, search efforts have occurred. Volunteer groups have been drawn to his case, conducting sonar searches in local waterways in the hope of locating his missing vehicle, a significant clue that could provide answers. These searches, however, did not yield any discoveries related to Robert or his car. The overview of this case is one of quiet disappearance and lingering questions. A man, facing personal challenges, vanished along with his car after a visit with his parents. With no communication and essential medication left behind, the initial concern for his welfare has stretched into a decade-long mystery, leaving his family without closure.
