On a crisp autumn day, October 2, 2008, 77-year-old Jack Nels Gordon, a retired teacher, left his apartment on Miranda Street in Fort Garland, Colorado. A husband and father to seven children, he was heading to a five-acre home-site he owned that was under construction. The property was located on the southeast end of Luke Road in the Forbes Trinchera Ranches, also known as the Sangre De Cristo Ranches.
