In the winter of 2005, six-year-old Kyeimah Spann vanished from her home in Seattle, Washington. The exact date of her disappearance is uncertain, with reports suggesting it was on or around January 1, 2005. Concerns for Kyeimah's welfare grew when her mother, Samara Spann, moved to California with her other children in mid-February of that year. When questioned, Samara initially claimed Kyeimah was with her biological father, a statement that proved to be false. The situation escalated when Samara's own father contacted authorities in March, relaying disturbing information he had received that his daughter had drowned Kyeimah. This report, coupled with a tip received by the Department of Social and Health Services, officially launched a search for the young girl. The investigation into Kyeimah's disappearance soon uncovered a troubled history within the family. Samara Spann had a documented history of child abuse and neglect, with her children having been removed from her care on three separate occasions, only to be returned each time. Complaints had been filed in multiple states, but the family's frequent moves made it difficult for social services to effectively intervene. Neighbors in their Seattle community recalled hearing distressing sounds from the Spann home around the time Kyeimah was last seen, including a woman screaming and a gunshot. Although police responded to the disturbance, no arrests were made at the time. The investigation ultimately led to Samara's arrest in California in March 2005 on an unrelated charge of abusing her older daughter. In a tragic turn of events, the focus of the case shifted from a missing person investigation to a homicide inquiry. In June 2005, Samara Spann was charged with the murder of her daughter. Court documents revealed a horrific account of what transpired. Samara confessed to drowning Kyeimah in their bathtub, believing the child was a "demon." She admitted to leaving her daughter's body in the house for two days before dismembering it and disposing of the remains in the Elochoman River. Despite extensive searches, Kyeimah's body has never been recovered. In May 2007, Samara Spann pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 23 years in prison. The case of Kyeimah Spann is a heartbreaking story of a young life cut short by unimaginable violence at the hands of her own mother, leaving a lingering sense of loss as her remains have yet to be found.
