In the winter of 2013, a family’s holiday trip turned into a lasting mystery with the disappearance of 72-year-old Cecilia Salinas Soto. On January 3, 2013, Cecilia, a resident of Southern California, was last seen in Sierra Blanca, Texas. She, along with her husband, Roberto Muñoz, and their grandson, Armando Salinas, were on their way back from a holiday visit with relatives in Mexico. The family had traveled from their home in Coachella, California, in December 2012, with the intention of returning in early January. However, after their last contact on that January day, all communication from Cecilia and her family members ceased. Concern grew among relatives in the United States when days turned into weeks with no word from the traveling family. Attempts to reach them on their cell phones were unsuccessful, as the devices seemed to be turned off.
