In the quiet, early morning hours of July 31, 1980, the life of 28-year-old Lilli Marlene Dunn was forever altered in the driveway of her Southgate, Michigan home. A wife and mother to a seven-year-old daughter, Lilli was returning from a night out with friends. She had spent the evening bowling and then went to a lounge in Dearborn. Shortly after arriving home on Agnes Street around 2:30 a.m. and parking her car, she was violently abducted. Witnesses reported seeing a man forcing a kicking and screaming Lilli into a light-colored, late-model car, possibly a Buick, Pontiac Grand Prix, or Oldsmobile Cutlass. The vehicle then sped away, disappearing into the darkness. Her husband, awakened by her screams, rushed outside only to find her purse, hairbrush, and shoes left behind in the street, a heartbreaking testament to the struggle that had just taken place. The man who took Lilli was described by witnesses as being approximately six feet tall and weighing around 200 pounds, with dark, curly hair. Two neighbors who witnessed the event initially mistook it for a domestic dispute and did not immediately intervene. The investigation into her disappearance has spanned decades, with law enforcement exploring various leads. One significant theory that emerged was the potential involvement of serial killer Coral Eugene Watts. Watts was active in Michigan and Texas during that time and preyed on young white women, a profile that Lilli tragically fit. Although he was convicted of numerous murders, his connection to Lilli's case has never been definitively confirmed, and he died in prison from cancer. At the time of her disappearance, Lilli was working as a part-time model and had previously been employed by the Detroit News. Lilli Dunn's case remains unsolved, a painful and lingering mystery for her family and community. The initial horror of her abduction from the perceived safety of her own home has not faded with time. The details of her last known moments, the violent struggle, and the subsequent silence have left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. The investigation, while pointing to a possible link to a known serial killer, has not yielded the concrete answers needed to bring closure. The narrative of Lilli's disappearance is one of a vibrant young woman whose future was stolen in a moment of brutal violence, leaving behind a daughter to grow up without her mother and a case that continues to plead for resolution.
