In the quiet community of Oak Harbor, Washington, 81-year-old Betty Lou Tews was a resident of Sonic Road. In the summer of 2011, concerns for her well-being began to grow when family members were unable to reach her for a couple of weeks. Betty, who was described as frail and reliant on daily medication, was officially reported missing, with her last known contact being on June 30, 2011. The Island County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into her disappearance, which was quickly deemed suspicious. Investigators found that all of her vehicles were left at her home, and there were no signs of any travel arrangements. Furthermore, her bank account showed no activity, adding to the perplexing nature of her sudden absence. The investigation soon focused on Betty's son, Raymond Willey, who had been living with her at the time she vanished. Court records revealed a troubled history between mother and son. In the year prior to her disappearance, Betty had sought protection orders against Willey on two separate occasions. She alleged that he was abusive, drank heavily, and had even threatened her life, at one point reportedly pointing a rifle at her head. The first protection order was granted but later terminated at Betty's request. A temporary order was granted for the second request, but it expired when Betty did not attend the hearing for a permanent order. This history painted a grim picture of the environment within the home leading up to her disappearance. Following the report of his mother's disappearance, Raymond Willey was uncooperative and evasive with law enforcement. He relocated to California shortly after she went missing. Despite searches of Betty's residence, vehicles, and computers, no significant clues to her whereabouts were ever found. Tragically, authorities believe that foul play was involved in her case and that Betty is likely deceased. The primary suspect in her disappearance, her son Raymond Willey, died in 2016, leaving many questions unanswered. With his death, the investigation into Betty Tews's disappearance has stalled, and the case has grown cold. Her whereabouts remain unknown, and her case is an unsolved and deeply felt loss for those who knew her.
