On a late spring day, June 2, 2011, 41-year-old Angela Marie Gilbert was last seen in Granite Falls, Washington. She had been staying at a residence off of Mountain Loop Highway and, between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m., went for a walk on private timber land near the 21400 block of 119th Street Northeast. Angela, a mother of six, was in the company of a male acquaintance, Colton "Colt" White, who was the son of the person with whom she was staying. The two reportedly walked along a trail in the area, but only White returned from the walk. He told others that Angela had decided to continue on her own. Angela has not been seen or heard from since that day. Her mother officially reported her missing three days later. The investigation into Angela's disappearance took a complicated turn when the man she was last seen with, Colt White, also went missing a few days after her. Tragically, investigators were never able to interview him about Angela's case. Weeks later, in July 2011, White's body was discovered in the Stillaguamish River. His death was attributed to a probable fresh-water drowning. During the search for Angela, a single shoe, believed to be hers, was found near the Granite Falls fish ladder on the South Fork of the Stillaguamish River. However, authorities have questioned whether the shoe may have been planted there. The house where Angela was last seen no longer stands, leaving only a swimming pool at the location. Angela's family describes her as a vibrant person who could light up a room. Her daughter has spoken of her mother's infectious laugh and her ability to make friends easily. While acknowledging Angela's struggles with drug addiction, which had led to legal troubles, her family emphasizes that she was a wonderful and loving mother when she was sober. They find it uncharacteristic of her to be out of contact, especially since she disappeared shortly before her youngest daughter's birthday. The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate her disappearance as a cold case and urges anyone with information to come forward. The unresolved nature of her disappearance leaves her family with lingering questions and a deep sense of loss as they continue to hope for answers.
