In the autumn of 1986, a 27-year-old man named Thayne Alan Smika moved out of his Denver, Colorado, home and effectively vanished. He was last seen on October 1, 1986, a man with brown, curly hair and a full beard, leaving behind a life that was quietly unraveling.
