In the autumn of 1977, in the small community of St. Joseph, Michigan, 34-year-old Glenna Jane West, a devoted mother of four, vanished. The last time she was confirmed to have been seen was on November 24, 1977. Glenna was described by those who knew her as a vibrant and loving woman who cherished her children. Originally from Dowagiac, she was one of nine sisters and had moved back to Michigan with her husband, Robert "Bob" West, and their children to be closer to her own family. At the time of her disappearance, Glenna and her husband were separated but still living in the same home. She had previously held a clerical job but had left to raise her children. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are shrouded in mystery, beginning with the fact that she was not reported missing until December 12, 1977, nearly a month after she was last seen. The report of Glenna's disappearance was made by her husband, Bob, who told police he had not seen his wife for about a month and that her car, a late sixties or early seventies model greenish-brown, full-sized station wagon, was also gone. This significant delay in reporting her missing raised immediate questions for both law enforcement and Glenna's family, especially since she had no history of leaving without warning. Her family described a history of domestic violence within the marriage and held strong suspicions that Bob was involved in her disappearance. Adding to these suspicions, shortly after filing the missing person report, Bob was granted a divorce, and he then moved with their four children to Arizona. The house the couple had shared near the Blue Star Highway subsequently burned down, and the land has remained vacant ever since. Further complicating the investigation, when police in Arizona scheduled a polygraph test with Bob, he failed to show up for the appointment. The investigation into Glenna West's disappearance quickly grew cold, leaving a void in the lives of her children and her extended family. Her family reported having very limited contact with her children after they moved to Arizona with their father. Despite the passage of decades, the case remains unsolved, a lingering and painful mystery for those who knew and loved Glenna. She was a Caucasian female with brown hair and brown eyes, stood at 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighed approximately 140 pounds. The lack of any significant leads or the discovery of her or her vehicle has left investigators with more questions than answers. The delayed report of her disappearance, the history of domestic issues, her husband's subsequent actions, and his lack of cooperation with law enforcement have created a complex and troubling narrative. The case of Glenna Jane West is an enduring cold case, a silent testament to a life interrupted and a family left forever wondering what happened to their beloved mother, daughter, and sister.
